Claire Pepper of University of Brighton fought of students from around the UK to be crowned Young Fashion Photographer of the Year at The Clothes Show Live, Birmingham.
Claire picked up a fantastic prize that included the D90 - world’s first digital SLR to feature high definition movie mode, £2000 cash, a VIP lunch at the Clothes Show Live with friends and a one week placement with one of the industry’s finest photographers, Will Whipple.
The competition saw hundreds of entries from 16-25 year old fashion student photographers submit images that reflect the ‘Technostyle’ brief inspired by Nikon's innovative COOLPIX cameras.
“This year’s winner really is the cream of the UK’s emerging fashion photography crop,” says Gavin Brown, Managing Director of Clothes Show Live. “We are proud to be associated with such exciting new talent and hope that through this award we are helping to launch a successful career. To be chosen by the industry’s leading professionals should stand Claire in good stead and we look forward to seeing more from her in the future.”
Ten short listed entries were also displayed at Clothes Show Live 2008 and judged by a panel of experts, including one of the industry’s finest fashion photographers, Will Whipple and Nikon’s consumer product manager, Niki Needham.
Jeremy Gilbert, Nikon’s Group Marketing Manager says: “Nikon is committed to supporting young and emerging talent and encourages students to be proactive and enter competitions such as this as a way of establishing themselves within the industry post education. We wish Claire the best of luck.”
